从1991年4月来澳开始，到2024年7月，我出版了150本书，中英文均有，种类有长篇小说、短篇小说集、非小说、诗歌、文学翻译和文学批评。

回顾一下，这些书都是我在金斯勃雷居住期间出版的，除了一本之外。这是我和生前好友洪戈力合译，华中师范大学出版社1992年出版，John H. Flavell原著的Cognitive Development一书，译本书名为《认知发展》。他书出版后，未和我联系，出版社也未寄我样书。我1999年到北大驻校，当Asia-link的驻校作家时，才惊讶地得知，他已去世。

所以，实际上说，我在Kingsbury生活期间，只出了149本书。

From April 1991, when I came to Australia, to July 2024, I have published 150 books, in both Chinese and English, in the genres of fiction (novels and short stories), non-fiction, poetry, literary translation and literary criticism.

 

In retrospect, all those books were published during my residence in Kingsbury except one book. That is Cognitive Development by John H. Flavell, translated as《认知发展》, and co-translated by the late Hong Geli, a good friend of mine, and I, published by Central China Normal University Press in 1992. When the book was published, he did not contact me nor did the publisher send me a copy. It was not till I was Asia-link writer in residence at Peking University in late 1999 that I was shocked to learn that he had passed away.

 

So, practically, I have only published 149 books during the period in which I lived in Kingsbury.

In a way, everything is self publishing. When you open your mouth to talk, you are self publishing because you don’t want someone else to speak for you even if he or she were the speech writer for Howard or Bush or Mao Zedong. When the rain decides to fall it is self publishing, on a regional scale, sometimes on a statewide scale. You can’t dismiss it as unworthily self publishing because it doesn’t fall on a national scale or international scale. Rivers in the world are self publishing on a daily and nightly basis. Even a little creek is self publishing when it winds its way through an industrial zone clogged with toxicity and waste.
